He is obviously intelligent, practical and a "global thinker" who looks at all sides of an issue.
And "Hooray" for him opposing the amendment to allow tax dollars to support religious organizations that provide "pubic services." Anyone would be insane to be tricked into supporting this amendment which would open the door for many abuses and set a dangerous precedent.
Keep in mind that the "Church" of Scientology is technically considered a religion, though it has been proven to be a dangerous cult that sucks money and resources from it's members. It also has a history of providing "services" to the community as a way of recruiting new members. People who use their services have no idea they are connected to Scientology (they use shell organizations and corporations) and parents have sent children into their "drug abuse" programs only to lose their kids to this cult and have all communication from them cut off.
If this amendment passes ...do you want your tax dollars going to support this kind of activity? Who sorts out the "well meaning" religions from the cults? The courts can't do it... Scientology has already proven that.
Also... religions are protected from some of the types of audits and oversights that public companies are subject to. So... if we are giving our tax dollars to a religious group... who is going to oversee how it is spent when they are shielded from scrutiny?
There are many pieces of legislation that can look well meaning on the surface... but one must always "think globally" about the precedents they set, the ramifications, and all the aspects that come into play.
Mark LaFontaine has shown himself to be the kind of critical thinker that analyzes issues and sees beyond the "smoke and mirrors."
"Separation of Church and State" is a basic tenet of our constitution and our country. We were founded on "freedom of religion" ..not freedom from religion nor state sponsored religion. Any change to this tenet of our constitution is a slippery slope.
