Deputy Christopher Schaub

Sadly, we lost one of our own yesterday. Deputy Christopher Schaub from the Pompano Beach District was a 22-year veteran of our agency. His son, Tim, followed in his father’s footsteps and proudly serves our agency as a deputy sheriff in Pompano Beach. Chris is survived by his son, Tim, and daughter, Kaitlyn.

Chris began his law enforcement career in the State of New Jersey with the Livingston Police Department before moving to South Florida and joining BSO in 1990. During his career, Chris worked road patrol, in the detective bureau and most recently in Pompano Beach as a motorman with the traffic unit.

During his career, Chris received numerous commendations from citizens and supervisors. He received employee of the month honors several times and it is noted that his greatest quality was his persistence and dedication to duty.

Yesterday, Chris did what most of us do every day. He got up, put on his uniform and patrolled the streets of Broward County. He did not know that September 26, 2012 would be the last day of his life. Like Chris, we do not know what the outcome of the day will be, but we still get up, put on our uniform and protect the citizens ofBroward County. A career in public safety is not for everyone, but it was the one Chris chose and excelled in. He knew the dangers of law enforcement, he understood that working with the motor unit had even more potential hazards and accepted the challenge.

Yesterday, Chris made the ultimate sacrifice – he died in the line of duty. His memory and his sacrifice will never be forgotten. Deputy Christopher Schaub is a hero. Please keep his family, friends and fellow motormen in your thoughts and prayers.

The Department of Law Enforcement is working closely with the Chaplain’s Office and the Schaub family to plan a memorial service for Chris. Once these plans are finalized, they will be shared with you.

Stay safe.

Sheriff Al Lamberti
