" The GM engine plant in Flint said that they could no-longer use this water. It was corroding the engines. The emergency manager gave them a waiver and allowed them to hook back up to Detroit and yet, the people on the auto bodies are hurt, yet they got a way to get out of this, but human bodies. And so, the people had to remain on even when the city council voted months later 7 to 1 to disconnect from the Flint rejoined Detroit. The emergency manager said that their vote was incomprehensible, and it was only when the people speaking out, organizing. The grass roots activists on the ground are truly stunning. A leading doctor in Flint, a paediatrician, Mona Hanatris, said the children are being lead poisoned. And again, the state goes after those who speak out, after her. Virginia tech comes in Yes, From Virginia and test the water and finds unacceptably high levels of lead. Only when the media the national spotlight focuses are they forced to accept all these findings. And ultimately, because Rick Synder was under enormous pressure, the Michigan Governor, they hook up Flint to the Detroit water supply, but it was too late, because the Flint River corroded the lead pipes. So even when you have clean water, the kind that was flowing through their pipes for 50 years back still the people are being poisoned." Amy Goodman.
