On Friday, former U.S. President Barack Obama (D) endorsed Rick Kriseman (D) for re-election as mayor of St. Petersburg, Florida. The endorsement was Obama's fourth since leaving office and 170th since 2014.

Kriseman, who served in the Florida House of Representatives from 2006 to 2012, was an early Obama supporter in 2008. He faces six challengers, including former Mayor Rick Baker (R), in his bid for re-election. Two recent polls of the race each show Kriseman trailing Baker by 6 points. If no candidate receives more than 50 percent of the vote, a general election will be held on November 7 between the top two finishers.
