House LGBT Caucus Statement on the Passing of Edie Windsor

The Co-Chairs of the Congressional LGBT Equality Caucus issued the following statement in response to the passing of Edith Windsor, an LGBT-rights activist who was the named plaintiff in the landmark U.S. Supreme Court decision Windsor v. United States.

“Edie Windsor simply asked for fair and equal treatment under the law,” said Equality Caucus Co-Chair Congresswoman Kyrsten Sinema. “Edie’s determination and courage to stand up for what’s right paved the way for millions of Americans to have access to the rights and responsibilities of marriage.  On behalf of the Co-Chairs, we send our deepest condolences to Edie’s family and friends, and we celebrate a life well lived.”
