House LGBT Caucus Mourns the Passing of Louise Slaughter

Washington, D.C. -- The Congressional LGBT Equality Caucus released the following statement in response to the passing of Caucus member Rep. Louise Slaughter (NY-25).

“Louise Slaughter was a champion for the rights of all people, but particularly for the LGBT community,” said LGBT Equality Caucus CoChair Jared Polis (CO-02).  “As one of the authors of the Violence Against Women Act, she was a strong force behind extending the protections VAWA provides to LGBT people.  From her leadership on issues from marriage equality to comprehensive nondiscrimination protections, Representative Slaughter fought arm in arm with our community every day.  Her wit, passion, and depth of experience will be greatly missed in our Caucus.”
