On Thursday, September 18, Stonewall Library & Archives and Gay American Heroes Foundation will host an informal meet and greet with political icon and gay rights champion David Mixner. The event will be held at Stonewall, located at 1717 North Andrews Ave, Fort Lauderdale, at 6:00 pm.
In his over forty years of political engagement, Mixner worked inside campaigns, got arrested protesting unjust wars and rallied his LGBT brothers and sisters around his old friend Bill Clinton. Mixner went on to join Clinton's campaign and became the first openly gay man actively - and very publicly - involved in a presidential election.
Clinton would later break with Mixner by signing "Don't Ask, Don't Tell." Understandably angry over Clinton's apparent betrayal, Mixner came out against the discriminatory policy, a move which ended up getting him exiled from the Clinton inner circle.
Mixner is the author of the fascinating best sellers "Stranger Among Friends" and "Brave Journeys: Profiles in Gay and Lesbian Courage." His daily blog on www.davidmixner.com is an indescribably delicious read for anyone interested in American life and politics.
Please join us on Thursday, September 18 at 6:00 PM for this chance to meet a true LGBT pioneer. The event will include light refreshments and is free and open to the public.
This program is sponsored by Stonewall Library & Archives and Gay American Heroes Foundation.
