Local Democrats aren't rushing to create an anti-Palin presence on the Web

Though Broward is home to lots of vocal Democrats and lively participants in the blogosphere, activists said they weren't aware of blogs devoted to opposing Sarah Palin, the Republican vice presidential candidate.

Organizers of the national womenagainstsarahpalin blog, who describe themselves as "just two young women who had to do something," couldn't be reached. An e-mailed interview request generated a form "thanks so much for writing" reply.

Ron Mills, an area leader for the Broward Democratic Party who operates blogs devoted to local, state and national issues, said so many established, liberal blogs are discussing Palin that potential South Florida bloggers may not see the need to have sites devoted exclusively to her - yet.

For now, Mills said, establishing all-Palin blogs from the political left might not be a good idea right now.

"You're feeding right into their [the Republican] plan, setting her up as the straw man," he said. "Right now the progressives are walking on a tightrope as far as attacking her. To go after her, there would be a backlash."
