EASTER DAY CARJACKER STRIKES ELDERLY VICTIM WITH CAR DURING HIS ESCAPE

A carjacker targeted an elderly victim on his way to lunch Sunday afternoon in Oakland Park. The unidentified man struck the victim twice during the theft which was viewed by the restaurant patrons.

The afternoon of April 5, Robert Alan Rinehart was on his way to eat lunch at the Denny’s restaurant on Commercial Blvd. in Oakland Park when he noticed a man walk towards him. He had just parked his black 4-door 2011 Hyundai Genesis and still held the car keys in his hand. As they passed each other, the man asked Rinehart, “How much does it cost to eat here?” The man then quickly struck the victim in the arm, making him drop his car keys. The assailant grabbed the keys and ran to the victim’s car. Rinehart chased the man but was not able to stop him. As the carjacker drove off, he struck the victim in the lower torso with the car. People at the restaurant witnessed the carjacking and saw the suspect as he fled northbound on Dixie Highway.

Robbery detectives are looking for a male in his early twenties with a slim build and a dark complexion. He had medium-length black hair. He wore a white shirt with a Miami Heat logo on the front.
