Democrats are holding their 10th annual Labor Day Picnic on Monday.
The event, which is open to anyone, typically draws rank-and-file Democrats, and lots of politicians, from all over the county.
Speakers include candidates in what may be Broward's two hottest Democratic primaries in 2012: Congressional candidates Lois Frankel and Patrick Murphy, who hope to challenge U.S. Rep. Allen West, R-Plantation, and sheriff candidates Louie Granteed and Scott Israel, .
Other speakers on tap: U.S. Rep. Ted Deutch, D-Boca Raton, Florida Senate Minority Leader Nan Rich, D-Weston, Broward Democratic Chairman Mitch Ceasar, state Rep. Gwyn Clarke-Reed, County Commissioner Kristin Jacobs, School Board member Nora Rupert, and several other city commissioners and political candidates.
The event starts at 1 p.m. at the south pavilion at Pompano Beach Community Park, 2001 NE 10th St.
(It can be a little hard to find so organizers provided directions. From Interstate 95 head east on Atlantic Boulevard to Federal Highway. Head north on Federal. Turn left at the fourth traffic light, which is Tenth Street. Make the first left into the park. The south pavilion is next to the tennis courts.)
They'll have burgers and hot dogs. Attendees are asked to bring a dish to share, their own drinks and a chair.
The event is sponsored by the North Broward Democratic Club.
Other clubs involved: Deerfield Beach Democratic Club, Greater Deerfield Beach Democratic Club, Democratic Women's Club of Northeast Broward, Democratic Club of Wynmoor Village in Coconut Creek, Dolphin Democratic Club and Weston Democratic Club.
