Former Mayor Scott Brook Drops State House Race

His departure leaves Parkland Commissioner Jared Moskowitz as the only candidate for the northwest Broward open House District 96 seat.

Brook said he would support Moskowitz. Both are Democrats.

“I have some exciting news. Although it was not an easy decision, I have decided to conclude my run for the House in 2012 and focus on my family and law firm…Thank you to all for your support!…I need more time with my gang, my grandson and my 82 year old Dad :-) ,” Brook wrote on his personal Facebook page.

Brook told Browardbeat.com that his father was recently ill with severe swelling in the legs and is now in a rehab center.

He said because his mother died suddenly, he didn’t get to spend enough time with her. “I’m not going to miss” spending “every minute I can” with dad, he said.

A specialist in family law and workers’ compensation, the former mayor is married to Brenda Brook and has five children. He was a Coral Springs commissioner 2002-2006 and then elected mayor from 2006-2010.
