A Statement from Fort Lauderdale
Mayor John P. “Jack” Seiler on the Airport Incident

The City of Fort Lauderdale condemns the tragic act that took place this afternoon at Fort Lauderdale/Hollywood International Airport.  The airport is operated by Broward County with law enforcement and fire rescue services provided by the Broward Sheriff’s Office.
The City of Fort Lauderdale Police Department and Fire Department are providing mutual aid and response.  Our units are on site and around the perimeter to provide assistance, and we remain ready, willing, and able to provide whatever additional resources and support are needed.
We extend our heartfelt sympathy, prayers, and support to the innocent victims, as well as their families, friends, and loved ones who must endure the tremendous loss and hardship of this unconscionable act of violence.
We are committed to ensuring the safety of our visitors and neighbors, and we have taken all necessary precautions throughout the City, including increased security measures.  We also remind everyone that this is a time for all of us to come together and renew our commitment to being vigilant and keenly aware of our surroundings.  If you witness any suspicious activity or see anything that looks out of the ordinary, we encourage you to immediately report it to your local authorities.
It would be more appropriate for Broward County to provide a formal comment or statement on this active and ongoing investigation.
John P. "Jack" Seiler
Mayor
City of Fort Lauderdale, Florida
