Congressman Ted Deutch (FL-22), Ranking Member of the House Foreign Affairs Subcommittee on the Middle East and North Africa, released the following statement upon passage of House Resolution 11, objecting to the one-sided United Nations Security Council resolution against Israel.
“As I stated immediately following the U.N. Security Council’s vote, the one-sided resolution accomplishes nothing to bring the parties closer to peace. The resolution characterizes Jews praying at the Western Wall as violating international law while it ignores Palestinian terrorism, incitement to violence, and payments to families of terrorists. These aren’t just omissions of facts; this is an unequivocal attack on Israel in the historically biased international body.
“Last April, 394 members of the House urged the President to veto any one-sided resolutions at the U.N. Today’s House vote reaffirms our objection to one-sided, anti-Israel resolutions while also restating the continued bipartisan support in Congress for achieving a two-state solution, which will only come through direct, bilateral negotiations.”
