This looks like it has all the features of controversy," said board member Robert Parks. "It opens up a whole new bag of worms. I'm just trying to think about how do we protect the students from getting taken advantage of."
Past school boards agreed with Parks and had banned political participation since the inception of mandatory community service hours in 1999. Broward now requires more such hours from students than any other school district in Florida. Starting this year, Palm Beach County will require 20 hours from their seniors.
