The Florida Commission on Ethics is investigating whether Hollywood Mayor Mara Giulianti improperly accepted a trip from a labor union.
In a letter dated Aug. 13 to the mayor and obtained by the South Florida Sun-Sentinel, the commission stated that it had received a complaint against her and will review the matter.
The complaint was lodged by Sara Case, a retired lawyer living in Hollywood who edits an online citizens' newsletter about city government www.balancesheetonline.com.

Case said she sought the ethics investigation after the Sun-Sentinel reported Aug. 5 that Giulianti accepted $2,500 from an international union of plumbers to attend the 2004 Democratic National Convention in Boston. The mayor served as a delegate to the convention, which nominated U.S. Sen. John Kerry of Massachusetts for president.
