Ms. Hope's challengers are Lynn Simon, 49, an involved parent who is seeking an education degree from Broward College, and Laurie Rich Levinson, 47, a businesswoman and daughter of state Sen. Nan Rich. Ms. Rich Levinson has served on various education advisory committees and has a plethora of endorsements. She has been tough but fair in evaluating Superintendent Jim Notter, whose relations with the teachers union have been tense. She is pushing for more mentoring programs for students who need role models.
