Judge Luzzo earned nationwide fame in 1982 for being the first judge in the country to sentence someone to jail for animal abuse. The case involved a Sunrise man who stole his neighbor's cat and fed it to his three pit bulls. He got 60 days and psychological counseling. Animal lovers throughout the country inundated the judge with fan mail.
